Umpqua Lighthouse 21

The Umpqua Lighthouse first became operational in 1857 but was built in an area prone to flooding. The first lighthouse eventually came crashing down and the site was abandoned as a lighthouse location. Cape Arago lighthouse was built in its place and it wasn't until 1888 that funded were appropriated to replace the original lighthouse in a more secure location. The new lighthouse stands 65 feet tall with a stunning first order lens. Today Douglas County manages the lighthouse and public tours where one of only a handful of first order freshnel lens remain operational.
