Steamboat Geyser 78
Steamboat Geyser is the tallest active geyser in the world with eruptions up to 380 feet high that can last for 70 plus minutes in the water phase. After the initial eruption a steam phase can last for another day or two. The geyser in located in the Back Basin area of Norris Geyser Basin in Yellowstone National Park. Prior to 2017 eruptions were highly irregular and ranged from 3 day intervals all the way to 50 years. From the Spring and Summer months of 2019, eruptions have been occuring in the 3-7 day range. Norris Geyser Basin in the hottest of Yellowstone's basins with places in the basin only about 3 miles above lava.
