Mud Volcano Basin 3

Mud Volcano area is one of Yellowstone's many hydrothermal basins that is a bit different than most of the other basins. The area is located near one of the volcano's vents and has features that are some of the most acidic in the park. Here visitors can experience lakes of acid and mud that constantly boil. The feature pictured here is named Mud Volcano. It is now a crater filled with boiling mud but was once a 30 foot high cone that erupted mud high enough to cover nearby trees.
