Sapphire Pool 21.jpg
The first major features visitors encounter at Bisciut Basin are a trio of Pools, Black Opal, Wall, and Sapphire Pool. The third feature of Sapphire Pool is one of the most popular features in this basin. However, it t has changed quite a bit since the 1950's earthquake. In fact the basin acquired its name from the gerserite clumps that resembled biscuits that were all around the pool. With the 1959 Hebgen earthquake nearby, Sapphire Pool begin violent eruptions that altered the biscuits as well as it's coloring. Today the Pool is much lighter in color with few biscuits left.
