Fort Pickens 363

The interior of Fort Picken's in Pensacola Beach has many beautiful archways and interesting rooms. The fort itself, was built in the early 1800's as one of three forts in the area to guard against British invasions. The fort was named for revolutionary war hero Andrew Pickens and contains over 21 million bricks. Many of the arches in this fort were constructed useing a reverse arch technique. The reverse arches are mostly in the ground but can be seen in sections of the fort that have serious erosion.
